—Restaurant recommendation: I had never been to the brunch spot Batter & Berries—which is in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood as well as Olympia Fields—but I’m wondering what took me so long.
Owner/Executive Chef Ken Polk (who may be expanding the spot to Chicago’s West Side) has put together a menu of absolutely delectable items. The French toast lineup is wonderful, with options such as blueberry, lemon, strawberry and caramel—an even a flight of all four for those who have trouble deciding. However, there’s so much more, such as omelets, waffles and breakfast (or brunch) specialties like the We’re Moving On Up Executive offering (ribeye steak, grilled onions and mushrooms with two eggs and cheese-crusted hash browns) and the Cluck & Gravy (handmade buttermilk-and-herb biscuits, chicken sausage gravy and an egg).
One thing’s for sure: You won’t leave hungry. See BatterAndBerries.com.
—It’s official: Mayor Brandon Johnson announced that March 21 will be declared Rick Bayless Day throughout Chicago to celebrate the 37-year anniversary of Frontera Grill, 445 N. Clark St.
